Ian Sidaway originally trained as a graphic designer and has been working as a freelance artist since 1970. He is the author of 20 art techniques books, including The Instant Artist, which won the Artist's Choice Art Instruction Book of the Year award in 2001. His other published works include The Acrylic Painter's Pocket Palette (Search Press); How To Draw Buildings (New Holland); Oils (Sunburst Books); Colour Mixing Bible (David & Charles); How To Draw Still Life (New Holland); The Watercolourist's Guide to Art Papers (David & Charles); Pastels (Sunburst Books); and How To Paint (New Holland). For Lorenz Books he has written The Practical Encyclopedia of Watercolour and The Practical Encyclopedia of Oils, Acrylics and Gouache. Sarah Hoggett is a freelance writer and editor who specializes in practical art and photography titles. As former Editorial Director of a major London publishing house, she has wide-ranging experience of producing highly illustrated books for the international co-edition market. She lives in London. Janet Mehigan is a Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminatorsand of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society. She also teaches calligraphy and art in Adult Education. Janet runs a number of workshops and has been a participant at Art in Action. She has written a title called Illumination for Calligraphy and hasco-authored a number of books about calligraphy with Mary Noble, also a Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators and of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and a teacher in Further Education. These titles include The Beginner's Guide to Calligraphy and The Calligrapher's Companion. Janet has also contributed to many other publications about calligraphy. Hazel Harrison is a highly experienced and respected figure in the world of practical art publishing. She is a practising artist having studied at the Royal Academy School of Painting in London. She now divides her time between writing and painting.
