Ruth Brown was born in Devon in 1941. She has always had a talent for drawing and at 16 she went to Art College, first at Bournemouth, then Birmingham. In 1961 she secured a place at the Royal College of Art in London and in 1964 she married a fellow student, Ken Brown. Ruth was introduced to the idea of writing for children by illustrator and great friend, Pat Hutchins and she has since has illustrated and written numerous picture books. She has also illustrated several stories for James Herriot and visits the Yorkshire Dales once a year for inspiration for the drawings. Ruth lives in Bath with her husband and two sons, Hogan and James.
