William loves having a bedtime story read to him at night, but when his baby brother comes along his Mum and Dad are busy all the time.

William goes in search of a new home, but soon discovers that it's not easy to find somewhere that's just right for him and his book: the ducklings' lake is too wet; Little Mouse's mousehole is too small; Little Wolf's cave is too dark; and although Owl loves reading, his nest is much too high.
