In the Absence of Angels Summary

In the Absence of Angels by Elizabeth Glaser

In 1981, Elizabeth Glaser was going through a difficult birth with her and Paul's first child, a daughter named Ariel. Haemorrhaging badly, Elizabeth was transfused with 7 pints of blood. Four years later Ariel developed AIDS. The family realized then the blood had been tainted. Mother and daughter were infected and so was a son, born after Ariel. Shunned by some of their closest friends and with Ariel's health failing, Elizabeth decided that she had to fight AIDS. She campaigned endlessly and started the Pediatric AIDS foundation. Along the way she received invaluable support from Steven Spielberg, Cher and the Reagans, among many others. Sadly, her daughter died in 1988, but Elizabeth believes it is not too late for herself, her son and many thousands of fellow sufferers.
