Once associated with the image of children's toys , to Polymerclay has - or in Germany better known as FIMO, has developed into a serious art medium.
Particularly English and American artists have perfected the use of the material, creating true works of art. Jewelry, buttons , containers , decorative objects associated with other materials combine beauty with experimentation. The American artist Marie Segal has been working with the material since 1978 with Polymerclay, very successfully,
sharing her knowledge in books, courses and TV appearances. This book is a never before seen variety of concoctions , colors , surface effects and creative options. The first chapter introduces the general work with Polymerclay . The basic equipment such as tools , paints and tools are now available in Germany . Both beginners and advanced " FIMO " artists find valuable tips that were not mentioned in any German instruction book in such detail.
In the main part of the book Marie Segal shows an incredible collection of effects . Almost any material can be mixed with Polymerclay and new variations may occur each time. You are probably like me in amazement, looking through the book and not knowing where to start. For this problem the artist has prepared a good tip. It is recommended that effects , which one would want to try first to make a handy sample. From small thickness and size, it can be in a booklet glue, provided with notes on the colors used and how it was manufactured . Later you can choose from this collection suitable examples of a jewel. Each of the six " effect " chapter includes not only the idea of different processing options and a step by step introduction to the technology. You will also see a wealth of design possibilities of various American artists. In addition to jewelery is a brief description of the design and cross references used on pages of this book. In the last chapter , the artist shows ways how to combine " FIMO " with other materials and use as Mixed Media- idea . Creations of various artists present the variety by combining stones , wire , beads , wood , gems and metal with Polymerclay. Conclusion: "The Polymer Clay Artist's Guide" is a compendium of known , but also completely new design possibilities with Polymerclay . A variety of examples , some with detailed instructions are presented. Useful tips of experienced seminar leader increase the learning effect and making the textbook an essential reference .

I have always been amazed what you can do with polymer clay but previously I have been nervous about trying to replicate it. This book is jam packed full of instructions so that you don't need to be nervous. You'll feel confident that you can replicate the designs. With each of the techniques you are given step by step instructions and pictures to create the effect and that project. You are then also given other examples you can recreate with the same effect. The projects you can create and the examples are amazing. Most people wouldn't guess that you have created it with polymer clay.

The instructions are really easy to follow and you will be amazed what is used to make the fantastic

different effects. It's amazing what you can do with bubble wrap! If you want to take your work with polymer clay to the next level then this book would be a fantastic investment. The "Polymer Clay Artist's guide" by Marie Segal is an incredibly informative book for both novice and expert alike detailing in great depth, everything one needs to know about the clay. Ranging from hints and tips to more detailed techniques, it is enormously comprehensive. From how to create your own jewellery, to figures and ornaments, the reader will never be stuck for inspiration! I recommend this book to anyone looking to indulge their creative proclivities, as the end results will be extremely rewarding!-Karen Walker

What a triumph. This book is worth its weight in gold. It is a must for any polymer clay artist. The potential of polymer clay is enormous. This versatile medium can be stamped, inked, carved, embellished and more. You'll find just about every technique in this book from texturing to encaustic wax, blending to mokume and more. Excellent for beginners and those wishing to expand their skills. This book, with its clear photos and instructions, will help you achieve a professional look. An amazing amount of effects, well illustrated and demonstrated will entice you to experiment. The book also shows samples of artist's work. Highly recommended.

About Marie Segal

Marie Segal has been experimenting, working, and playing with polymer clay since 1978. During this time, she has demonstrated at large trade shows all over the world, taught at conferences and museums, as well as on TV, made teaching videos, written her own books, written articles for national and international magazines and books, developed a polymer clay with a major company and explored all kinds of mixed media applications with polymer clay. Marie was presented with the "Creative Pioneer and Innovator Award for 2012" at the Cabin Fever Clay Fest, one of the leading US polymer clay conferences. Marie lives in southern California with her husband Howard and for the last 30 years, they have owned and operated a clay and supplies business together.
