Taking the reader from the 19th century through to the modern day, this title features a variety of case studies, ranging from traditional to high-tech industries, and from retailing to transport. Economic influences upon the primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary sectors are all observed in relation to change. Industrial and behavioural location theories are considered along with the role of government in regional development, before a final summary of the level of economic development as it stands today. Up to date case studies include comparative case studies of the UK and Zimbabwean Forestry, Birmingham, including the importance of the metal industries, retailing and a comparison with Vancouver. The 'Retail hierarchy' in Zimbabwe is discussed as is the role of government in Zimbabwe leading to its current situation.
