This study of Roman roads covers archaeological aspects and life on the roads - vehicles, cursus publicus, posting stations and portoria - throughout the Empire, discussing their military, commercial and administrative significance. Of particular interest to the British reader may be the French views of archaeology and of the Roman world, which differ considerably from British approaches, shown in the book.
