South Africa Summary

South Africa by Rob Bowden

South Africa's government and people still have much to do if they are to realise the hopes and dreams of the rainbow nation. There is no doubt that some people have benefited. A small group of well educated blacks, coloureds and Asians have been able to take advantage of new opportunities and their quality of life has improved dramatically. However, unemployment is high and poverty and inequality are still major problems. This book explores the changes that are taking place, and South Africans talk about their hopes for the future as their country enters the twenty-first century. This book includes maps and graphic panels showing statistics and fact boxes about size, flag, population, religion, currency, and language.
