Is That All There Is? Summary

Is That All There Is? by William King

Jesus! Religion,' says Wheeler.'What a load of cobblers ...that crap belongs to the dark ages, or for guys about to pop their clogs. All my generation wants is to get your MBA, have the Beemer, and the cool babe in the sack ...' At a Gatsby-like party,Wheeler and other young Dublin bankers are having a ball. The country is on a high-tide of spending, jettisoning old icons for the glittering prizes now within reach. More choppers than the Brits, positive karma, and trophy houses with 'lunette windows to die for' have become the benchmark for success. Is That All There Is? is a tale of hubris - as the main characters, a middle-aged couple, Philip and Samantha Lalor, fly too close to the sun. On a broad canvas, it offers a shrewd insight into the zeitgeist of a nation going through the birth-pangs of change.
